Job Description

Location: Henry Ford Jackson Hospital 

Schedule:  This will be 36 hours/week. The hours will be 0700-1930 (Saturday, Sunday) & 0900-2130 (one weekday) , with no assigned call  except  being part of the holiday call rotation (day shift call only). This position is not subject to mandation ,  but call is able to be picked up if desired.

Role Overview

As a Registered Nurse in our Perioperative department, you will provide comprehensive nursing care across the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. You will lead the coordination and delivery of compassionate, quality patient care utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. Your role is vital in ensuring patients and families receive the support, education, and advocacy they need throughout their surgical experience.

What You Will Do

• Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including patient history, physical examination, and identification of risk factors to ensure safe surgical preparation.
• Educate patients and families about the surgical process, postoperative expectations, and recovery protocols to promote informed decision-making and reduce anxiety.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including verification of consent, medication administration, and coordination of preoperative protocols.
• Provide intraoperative nursing support, including positioning, instrument management, specimen handling, and maintenance of a safe surgical environment.
• Monitor and document patient responses throughout all perioperative phases, ensuring adherence to safety standards and best practices.
• Facilitate seamless communication between surgical teams, anesthesia, and recovery staff to optimize patient outcomes.
• Provide postoperative recovery care, including pain management, wound assessment, and patient education for discharge planning.
• Identify and implement solutions for variances from expected patient outcomes and surgical goals.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Michigan.
• Demonstrated clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to assess patient needs and develop effective nursing care plans.
• Ability to provide a broad range of professional nursing services in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and multidisciplinary team members.
• Candidates with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) must enroll in an accredited BSN program within three (3) years of hire and obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within five (5) years of hire.
• Minimum of 1 to 2 years of acute care/inpatient nursing experience required.

Preferred

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Previous experience in the specialty area preferred.
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system preferred.
• Relevant specialty certifications preferred.
